brain drain

Have you ever think about our educational system in Iran? Do you accept it or…!
Nowadays lots of our young girls and boys receive their results in entrance exam. Some of them are satisfied and admire our system and some others aren’t. But none of them know any thing about their own future. I mean after their graduations. I don’t like to blame any one at all. Because I think it is useless! But have you ever heard any thing about (brain drain)?
In this text I am going to discuss this problem in our own country!
The migration of Iranian scientists and intellectuals to Western countries was a critical issue even before the revolution. After the revolution the issue has become even more critical so much so that it came as no surprise to Iranians to learn that according to international Monitory Fund Iran holds first place in brain drain among 96 developing and developed countries in the world!
The brain drain is now identified as a national problem. Many authorities feel that skill migration is a serious threat to the future of Iran a nation that needs its talented scientists and expatriate experts that ever before. With the brain drain identified as a national problem the next step is to find feasible and effective solutions to adopt prudent and sound policies to make an efficient use of the scientists at home and expatriate experts.
Although the global economy increasingly relies on science and technology the knowledge embodied in the people (human capital) is but one resource among many one whose value and effectiveness depends on its combination with other resource.
How serious is the brain drain problem? What are the factors causing this problem? How can we control or limit flows of skills? Can anything be done at all? Can we work out a compromise with the expatriate experts living abroad but helping with development at home? These are some of the questions we hope we will answer them one day!!
